Baobabs in savanna, Tanzania. Baobabs only grow about 70 feet (20 m) tall, but they can be up to 50 feet (15 m) in diameter (yes, diameter, not circumference). In dry years the girth of the baobab tree actually shrinks. It appears that individual baobabs may live as long as 3,000 years. This image also shows where elephants have not only peeled the bark off the trunk of the baobab but have cut deeply into the trunk.
