Tabebuia tree in flower, Costa Rica. Like many other tree species of tropical dry forests, these Tabebuia trees lose their leaves during the several month long dry season and flower during this season. In a remarkable and visually stunning display, all of the Tabebuia trees in a region flower simultaneously over just a few days. Within this short period all of the trees bloom, get pollinated by bees, and drop their flowers. This phenomenon is sometimes called ?big bang? flowering.
