Pine forest in the mountains, Arizona. Although much of Arizona is desert, pine forests flourish at higher elevations, as seen in this image. Southeastern Arizona is especially rich in bird species, and one of the main reasons for this is the range of habitats found in a small region--everything from low-lying, hot desert to mountain pine forests, and several types in between.
