Tropical rainforest & stream

Stream in rainforest, Atlantic Forest, Brazil. The Atlantic Forest of Brazil is both distant from and distinct from the Amazon. As a result of its distinct evolutionary history, the forest contains approximately 5,000 endemic plant species (species that are found nowhere else). However, this region also contains two of the world's largest metropolitan areas, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo; the combined population of the two exceeds 25 million. Due to urbanization and agriculture, more than 90 percent of the Atlantic Forest has been cut and relatively few healthy patches, such as this nature reserve, remain.
