Coffee plantation on former forest. This coffee is being grown in an area that used to be covered with tropical transitional forest (neither rainforest nor fully dry forest). The stump in the center of the picture gives a sense of the size of trees that once grew here. Native to Ethiopia, coffee grows as a shrub or small tree. Each fruit contains two coffee beans (technically, they are seeds) that will be dried, roasted, and ground before they can be used to create a cup of coffee.
