Oil palm trees. Originally from West Africa, oil palms are now grown in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the New World Tropics. The pulp of the fruit yields an oil that is used to make margarine, soap, and cooking oil, while the seed yields an oil that is used in ice cream, margarine, and other uses.
