Radish. Cultivated in Egypt for over 4,000 years, radishes spread to China over 2,000 years ago. Many different varieties exist, with the largest producing edible roots up to 40 lb (20 kg). Wild-growing radishes have been the focus of many genetic studies, including some that study what happens to pollen from several different plants when it is deposited on a single flower.
